Member Dues Will Remain Level in 2019

September 13, 2018 by Julie Painter RN, MSN, OCN®

Discussion of ONS’s financial health was a key item on the agenda for the July 2018 Board of Directors meeting.

As one of the quarterly face-to-face meetings the Board holds in conjunction with ONS Leadership Weekend, the meeting also provided the opportunity for in-depth discussion around several additional topics.

No Dues Increase, Congress Registration to Include Wednesday Sessions

Annually, the Board considers a $2 dues increase in membership fees, but based on the current membership dues schedule, the Board approved keeping the amount level for 2019.

Congress has evolved significantly over the past few years, providing more tracks, sessions, e-posters, and continuing nursing education than ever before. Additionally, for 2019, the Board approved including Wednesday pre-Congress sessions for all attendees as part of the regular registration fee.

Joint Board Meetings and Other Topics

Other topics the Board discussed included the 2019–2021 ONS Strategic Plan, and more information will be available about this in coming months. Additionally, ONS Leadership Weekend provides the opportunity for the ONS Board to meet with the affiliate boards of the ONS Foundation and Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC), as well as ONS’s Leadership Development Committee (LDC).

During the ONS Foundation joint meeting, the boards discussed the Art and Science of Cancer Care: two initiatives the Foundation is planning, developing, and implementing over the next few years. Art of Cancer Care centers on self-care of the oncology nurse, and Science of Cancer Care will promote generating evidence through nursing research to optimize cancer care.

During the ONCC joint meeting, the boards discussed implementing new renewal requirements for AOCNS® certified nurses in the future and the emerging trend of microcredentialing.

The final joint meeting, conducted with the LDC, focused on the LDC’s work to develop a leadership pathway for ONS members interested in serving in leadership roles at various stages in their career.
