ONS Board Looks Ahead to Exciting Plans in 2018
At the October Board meeting, we looked back at 2017 as a year that included great meeting times for ONS members at Congress in Denver, CO; regional chapter officer meetings; Leadership Weekend in Pittsburgh, PA; and Capitol Hill Days in Washington, DC. The ONS Board also looked ahead to 2018 and the third year of the strategic plan.
Budgets and Finances
The Board approved the fiscal year 2018 operational and capital budgets to support the ONS strategic plan. The Board agreed to maintain current rates and fees for ONS membership dues and Congress registration for 2018. Representatives from our investment firm, Bilkey Katz, presented their quarterly report that showed a positive outlook for ONS investments in the current economic climate.
Chapter Governance
The Board also discussed recommendations from the ONS Chapter Task Force, including plans for chapter governance structure changes like moving toward standard election timeframes and opportunities for member engagement. The Board values chapters as the local presence of ONS in serving ONS members and advancing the ONS mission. The Board will continue to discuss the recommendations at future board meetings and work with the member and customer relations department to roll out the changes based on the input from the Chapter Task Force.
Board Evaluation
The Board is committed to ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of Board work and the contributions offered by individual Board members. We continued our evaluation with a review of Board leadership competencies and individual feedback provided to each Board member. The next face-to-face meeting in February will include a discussion with the Leadership Development Committee, exploring development for ONS members as future leaders. The ONS Board has our calendars marked for exciting times in 2018—do you?
