ONS Leaders Discuss Society’s Changing Role and Focus in Cancer Nursing Research
PITTSBURGH, PA—April, 18, 2017—The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Research Think Tank met at the ONS national office from March 20–21, 2017, to discuss the future directions of ONS in cancer nursing research.
To address the changing healthcare, research, and funding environments, ONS is restructuring its research department under new Chief Clinical Officer Lisa Kennedy Sheldon, PhD, APRN, AOCNP®, FAAN. Think tank participants and ONS leaders considered evolving research priorities, training and support of nurse researchers, and the release of the Blue Ribbon Panel Report from the National Cancer Moonshot Initiative when analyzing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. They recommended creating a crosswalk between clinical trends and needs, health policy, and the ONS research agenda. In addition, the group discussed potential collaborations and partnerships that could help shape and fund ONS research initiatives.
Formal recommendations are forthcoming.
