The 41st annual ONS Congress will be held in San Antonio, TX, for 2016, bringing together oncology nurses from all over the world. From April 28–May 1, oncology professionals will congregate to share their experiences, attend up-to-date research presentations, network with like-minded oncology professionals, and more.
This year’s Congress also marks the midpoint of ONS’s 2014–2018 research agenda. As such, Congress will feature speakers and presentations that highlight the current developments in the research agenda, including
- Symptoms
- Late effects of cancer treatment and survivorship care
- Palliative and end-of-life care
- Self-management
- Aging
- Family and caregivers
- Improving healthcare systems
- Risk reduction.
The topics are all underscored with the cross-cutting themes of bioinformatics, biomarkers, comparative effectiveness research, and dissemination and implementation science. The invited speakers will work to translate research to practice and raise a greater awareness of issues being addressed by research studies.
One of the invited speaker sessions, Implementation of Evidence in Practice: Policy or Secret Sauce, will be facilitated by Donna Berry, PhD, RN, AOCN®, FAAN, with expert panelists, Ann Berger, PhD, APRN-CNS, AOCNS®, FAAN, and Tracy Gosselin, RN, PhD, AOCN®. This will be a panel debate with the experts focusing on translating research to clinical practice including assessment, management, and institutional policies. It’s scheduled for April 28 at 2:45 pm.
On April 28 at 12:30 pm, expert Susan Beck, PhD, APRN, FAAN, AOCN®, will facilitate a dynamic symptoms research expert panel featuring renowned nurse scientists Christine Miaskowski, RN, PhD, FAAN, Ruth McCorkle, PhD, RN, FAAN, and Janet Carpenter, PhD, RN, FAAN.
Barbara Cochrane, PhD, RN, FAAN, who has led the Women’s Health Initiative since its inception, will give the prestigious ONS Foundation Ray Le. Her session, Exploring the Challenges and Opportunities for Nursing Research, is scheduled for April 28 at 4:15 pm. Also, the American Association for Cancer Research/ONS Research has planned a presentation discussing epigenetics and cancer.
