Oncology Nursing Society Hires Jaimie Vickery, MPP, as Director of Government Affairs and Advocacy
PITTSBURGH, PA—January 3, 2024—Jaimie Vickery, MPP, joined the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) last fall as its next director of government affairs and advocacy. Vickery is the former government affairs lead for Vaccinate Your Family, a national nonprofit organization.
“Jaimie’s tenured experience in the policy and advocacy space will be a strong asset to ONS and will help ensure that oncology nurses and patients have their voices heard at the highest decision-making tables,” ONS Chief Clinical Officer Erica Fischer-Cartlidge, DNP, CNS, AOCNS®, EBP-C, said.
As director of government affairs and advocacy, Vickery is ONS’s primary representative and advocate on national policy issues related to cancer care, oncology nursing, and the nursing profession. In that role, Vickery will continue to advance ONS’s comprehensive strategy to address legislative and regulatory issues related to oncology nursing, ONS, Oncology Nursing Foundation, and Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation. In addition, she will work directly with ONS members, chapters, coalitions, and patient advocacy organizations to achieve the ONS mission.
Vickery holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Azusa Pacific University in California and a master’s degree in public policy from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. With more than 20 years of advocacy and policy experience, she has worked on Capitol Hill as a legislative aide and advocated for multiple healthcare-focused organizations at the federal level.
“Like so many of us, cancer is a personal issue for me,” Vickery said. “I’m excited to join ONS and to help ensure that oncology nurses have the education, training, and support to provide the very best cancer care possible to every patient and their families.”
ONS is a professional association that represents more than 100,000 nurses and is the professional home to more than 35,000 members.
