Making a commitment to equip today’s and future nurses with the knowledge they need to deliver safe, high-quality care, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), awarded $13 million (https://www.hhs.gov/about/news/2022/10/21/hhs-invests-13-million-grow-and-strengthen-nursing-workforce.html) in October 2022 to programs to improve access to. The awarded funds are part of a series of investments the Biden-Harris Administration earmarked to support pathways to nursing jobs (https://www.hhs.gov/about/news/2022/10/21/hhs-invests-13-million-grow-and-strengthen-nursing-workforce.html).

HRSA awarded more than $8.4 million to 10 organizations through the Clinical Faculty and Preceptor Academies Program (https://www.hrsa.gov/grants/find-funding/HRSA-22-170) and $4.75 million to 14 organizations through the Registered Nurse Training Program (https://www.hrsa.gov/grants/find-funding/HRSA-22-168).

“Nurses are an essential part of our nation’s healthcare system,” Xavier Becerra, HHS secretary, said (https://www.hhs.gov/about/news/2022/10/21/hhs-invests-13-million-grow-and-strengthen-nursing-workforce.html). “We are committed to growing the next generation of nurses and ensuring the education and training they receive prepares them to provide high-quality culturally competent care. Supporting nurses and other frontline health professionals providing care in our communities is critical to improving our nation’s health and well-being.”

“Nurses have been true heroes throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond, delivering lifesaving care on the frontlines despite unprecedented challenges,” Carole Johnson, HRSA administrator, said (https://www.hhs.gov/about/news/2022/10/21/hhs-invests-13-million-grow-and-strengthen-nursing-workforce.html). “Today’s announcement is part of HRSA’s commitment to strengthening nursing training and education and growing the next generation of the nursing workforce.”
