There is no such thing as a dumb question. This common expression is equally important when visiting your healthcare provider too. Often patients are intimidated, rushed, or unaware of even the questions they should ask.
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) wants Americans to stop, slow down, and ask questions about their own healthcare. In a new public health campaign, AHRQ is promoting patient-centered care by putting together materials and videos that is directed at both patients and providers in an attempt to breach the too-often wide gulf between the two groups.
“Quality health care is a team effort. You play an important role. One of the best ways to communicate with your doctor and healthcare team is by asking questions,” AHRQ reminds patients in the toolkit.
Questions Are the Answer is designed to promote safer care and better health outcomes. To request a free supply of the materials in English or Spanish, email AHRQpubs@ahrq.hhs.gov or call 800-358-9295.
